In about 24 hours, the character-driven RP I've been talking about in the 'What If...' thread will start. I have and use mIRC or ICQ; does anyone else prefer something different? So far, there seem to be just three of us: Picker, Spider and me.
The factions that are represented so far are clones of the following: Gaians, UofP, Hive. We still need some people!

You can come up with something that's a tweeked-on clone. For instance, my Centauri Witches aren't precisely like the Gaians; they're actually sort of vicious. As long as it fits with the basic idea behind SMAC, it'll work just fine.
What about tweeking the Spartans to be kind of like a warrior-culture?

Seems like fun. I would like to be a hive-like, but since it is already taken, I will modify it a bit.
The Peoples Republic. We are a collectivist society. The state is almighty and the leader is a virtual God. The society is structured as in 1984, with branches of party.

Is that ok? or a bit OTT?

John, Eccles, both of those sound terrific. Can you come up with good faction leader personas to go with them? Check my post on the SMAC Fiction forum and also the Centauri Witches thread on the Factions forum. The faction leaders is mainly what this RP will deal with.

Ok, a profile of the leader.
Chairman Eccles is a small man, angular. Some have called him frail, but they have never survived long. He has a thin oval face, in which you can see most of the bones in his face. The eyes accentuate the effect, they are almost sunken, and obscured by the large black rings under his eyes. His expression is hooded by one thick black eyebrow which gives menace to his expression. He has thin lips, and small teeth, which makes him seem distrustful. He has a penetrating stare that makes most minions cower in fear.
His mood varies between icy blackness, when he supposes an air of superiority, his face arrogant and mocking, and joyful energy. Mostly he remains inscrutable, but always he seems to calculating and observing.
I got my flatmate to write it for me, its quite good, isnt it!
How would we be doing this? I have no idea how to ICQ or anything.
