... But I should have stayed home.
I got shot down twice crashing two aircraft. One even had a brand new engine.
A guy, in a heat before me, left his transmitter (which was on my frequency) turned ON when he returned it to the impound. This should not have happened. The people running the race did not have a proper transmitter impound in operation. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.
Some Technical Notes: 1) The aircraft are radio controlled. 2) The speed is around 150 to 180 mph. depending on the class. 3) We race four aircraft at a time (a heat). 4) You get 4 points for a 1st place finish, 3 for 2nd etc. 5) We race five rounds (i.e. each pilot files in five heats). Whoever has the most total points wins. 6) There are about 20 different radio frequencies that we use. 7) Each aircraft in a heat is on a different frequency so there is no interference between aircraft in a heat. 8) An aircraft is said to have been shot down if someone turns on a transmitter tuned to the same frequency as an aircraft that is in flight causing interference and a crash.
