I have recently become aware of an impending technology problem that makes Y2K look like childs play.

While attending Microsoft MSDN seminars on COM services and how a DBA can use DTS and QA with ODBC to improve performance of SQLServer MDF, NDF and LDF files. I became concerned with overuse of acronyms, or OOA, which borders on abuse of acronyms, or AOA. The incredible pace of technological inovations, or IPTI, that we have enjoyed over the past few years is fueled by acronyms. Without a cool new acronym, or CNA, for a new technological inovation, it not likely to be adopted as a standard. With a 26 letter alphabet there are only 17,576 three letter acronyms, or TLA, available. The use of four letter acronyms, or FLA, makes a total of 456,976 combinations available. Now that may sound like a really big number, or RBN, but my projected calculations, or MPC, indicate that we will run out of FLA by 2004, halting all technological progress or HATP.

In a nutshell; IPTI is fueled by CNA, unfortunately AOA is exhausting FLA which MPC shows will run out in 2004 causing HATP.

I think the greater concern is confusing the many acronyms. Plus many acronyms get re-used. I can't think of any examples right now though.

WTF? FYI, CNA will exist for many years, or FMY. we have nothing to worry about, or NTWA, so I think you'd better shut the **** up, or ST*U.

In conclusion: FYI, CNA will exist FMY. We have NTWA, so ST*U.

Oh, and actually, ETLA(Extended Three Letter Acronym) is synonymous with FLA and is generally prefered.

HR,

WAYTAB? ICNRAMWSMA! NTJCROASI!

Spoe,

ATM = Anti Tank Mine. You might need one if you are planning a trip to Kosovo.

ETLA (Extended Three Letter Acronym) is better than FLA (four letter acronyms) as it would not be confused with the proposed FLA (five letter acronyms) solution. Unfortunately, it could be confused with Enhanced Three Letter Acronym! Remember the confusion of Enhanced and Extended memory!

True, maybe XTLA could stand for eXtended Three Letter Acronym.

When you get up to six letters you have DTLA.

One big problem with longer acronyms is increased medical costs. This is encountered when someone, using a long sting of acronyms in a presentation, forgets to inhale and passes out requiring assistance from an EMT.

BYOB...

HXULTLA:
Hyper-Extended Ultra Long Three Letter Acronyms could be used to increase the combination size.

I suggest OLAs or One Letter Acronyms. That waywe'd have an even bigger problem!

No, really, let's just introduce the symbols , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , and into the English Language. Simple!

Or, alternatively, we could introduce the mCa, or Mixed Capital Acronym. Then we could differentiate between EpA, EPA, epa, ePa, ePA, and Epa, and immediately get six times as many TLAs and ten times as many FLAs!

At least the Chinese and Japanese dont have a problem for a while yet. And a worthy suggestion is that we all switch to the Cambodian alphabet, which has something like 80 letters.
