Actually I was thinking of writing an article on that. It's two things: A. I've been really short on time as of late with the last, fading days of high school. One of the reasons my posting in the CPUB has suffered as well. B. I haven't played SMAC in a month. What free time I do get I spend online and playing HOMM III. How can I honestly write strategy for a game I haven't played in awhile? Well, seeing this demand, perhaps I mine as well finish up Issue III, the final issue. Bordino kindly contributed a PK strat guide, and I had several ideas for articles to write... I just never wrote them. |

Hugo, click here. Speaking of ideas, could you ressurect tOFfGI? Either that or I'll put them on my site, or both. John III |

I Really want to resurrect tOFfGI, but It fails on several accounts. (1) I don't have time to personally go in, read, comment, make a page for, make several Graphics files for and index each entry (takes c:a 30 minutes). The only solution I can see to this problem is creating a CGI script that allows submission of text, kind of like the UBB but with a few more index fields and a few sorting methods. The Problem is I cannot do this- I don't have the skill nor the time to learn PERL. (2) My ISP is kicking me out in October- We got a two-year free trial from another. The Solution to #2 is just to move the page when I move ISPs, but the Solution to #1 is considerably harder. I am quite prepared to create all the graphics, the basic layout, the way the database would work, etc. If I only could create Easy CGI Scripts. I heard somewhere that Access 2000 would have support for creating CGI Scripts. Is this true? A final solution (Though not very neat) would be to use (surprise) UBB- I would redesign the graphics, etc., but the main problem would be that there would be barely any indexing, no way to distinguish Comments from the actual Ideas, No way to make sure that everything is rated correctly, etc. I still think the last solution is the best. I will do it if no one has a better suggestion. TOFFGI is a good idea in it's base, but it requires a large number of visitors to be really good. |

UBB would not be bad, actually. I checked over at Madrona Parks website, and It's quite possible to modify UBB enough to fit our purposes. The freeware version is, you guessed it, free. The registered version is $157. Now, the problem is you need a PERL 5 enabled Web Server? Got one and we're in business. |

http://www.imagination.org.uk/ I don't think it supports Perl 5 though... John III |

Yes it does. "If you wish to use CGI scripts in your site it couldn't be easier. Just mail us the CGI script you want to use and we will upload it to our cgi-bin. If you need a CGI script but haven't got one just mail the technical support team at [email protected] and they will endevour to find the script you need. We do request that you give us detail information on what the script does when mailing it to us. We will add the script to our CGI script listings page for other users to access if they need to. " |
