Is it me or is the SMAC off topic going slow as hell. In 24 hrs there is like 20 new posts. Shocking. So I'm here to start a new thread to liven the place up a bit.ummm... Got any ideas?

I'll start a new thread. The more, the better! Ambro2000 can't do it all! |

It is moving slow. I think it might be better to go to Apolyton where there seems to be better topics there.

Arghh, we've been infiltrated by Apolytoners! If only the vets who left would come back, it could be like old times again. |

Whatever you do DON'T GO TO APOLYTON! They only have a bunch off mindless threads over their at the moment. Besides the average age over there is only slightly over twelve Ambro2000

We won't have to worry about Apolyton for a while. Those big-headed fools are busy trying to annex Belize. Should keep them busy for a while. |

The Daleks.Don't think about the Dr. Who theme tune, it'll get annoyingly stuck in your head like it has in mine. |

Well, I don't want to sound like a pro-Apolyton loon, but the place is slightly better than here. And by slightly I mean A LOT.Don't get me wrong, this place is cool, but here if you post a thread and go away for a few days, it will still be on the first page when you get back from your Swedish holiday. On Apolyton you post and by the time you get back to the main page the thing you posted is like halfway down the page. I visit both sites every time I'm on the net but there is simply nothing to contribute to here. Even as little as a month ago this place was moving quite well. Lots of discussions, chats, stories, debates, etc. Now if you post the only certain reply you can expect is your own echo. Now I'm gonna stick with SMAC but if there is nothing here then the place will simply die out. Everyone seems to somehow disappeared. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE BELOVED SMAC??? |

It's the "angel's share." Many come, more go, the whisky gets better. |

It does seem like there are only 20 or 30 people posting, out of what, 2000 registered? That just doesn't make any sense. |

I doubt there is 2000 registered here. Apolytons got 2700. This place would be about 1000-1200. |

No, this place would be well over 5,000 is my guess. Think troubelshooting. Many people with 1 or 2 posts. The Firaxis Games forum has about 2,000. |

Could it be that the incubation period for "SMAC addiction virus" is 4-6 months, and we are seeing the results of this? Shouldnt IIIS be concerned somehow? |

I suppose. But people with 1-2 posts in troubleshooting don't really count. They have to make it to the Game or Off Topic to boost the numbers. |

Also, these forums have a huge head-start over Apolyton. Apolyton's numbers have shot up over the last two months or so, because they upgraded to the pay version of UBB, they consolidated all of the boards, and they were able to handle the initial rush of ideas for Civ3. However, these boards have been up several months longer and they have a much more "established" feeling. |

I checked Apolyton out a couple of days ago and it was full of Neo-Nazis, racists, sexists, homophobes, CtPers, Manchester United supporters (Aaarrrggghhh!!!) and people who likes British chocolate (!?).I didn't bother to register. |

OK ok ok.I know Poly has more than its fair share of loons. Thats exactly what I though when I first got there too, Valtyr. I thought it was just so different from SMAC, too vast and full of weirdos. But the more I started posting there the more I grew to like it. I used to be a SMACer going to Poly. Now I regard myself as a Polytoner coming to SMAC. Unrelated point - this place has gotten so run down that there aren't even any story threads going any more. About a month ago there used to be plenty of weird and wonderful stories to join. Now, most people sadly don't even know what a good story thread can do to brighten up your day, as you adventure through jungles or raze the cities of your enemies. Ho hum. Aman --now I know what Imran was talking about when he said 'Im off to Apolyton'. |
