What's the verdict on CTP?

What do you mean "CIV3, CTP.....any good?" CTP is not Civ3!About CTP: Crappy interface, unbalanced gameplay, stupidly named "future" units (eg. "Cyber Ninja"(!)), uninteresting end goal (who cares about synthesizing aliens?), boring Wonder movies, unrealistic combat (a Phalanx and a Legion actually beat my Bomber (!)), crude diplomacy, too few advances, and the most annoying feature: Aaarrrggghhh!!! The screen won't centre on my active unit!!! The "Public Works" system is good, though. And you can still win it by kicking the other tribes' butts (so you won't have to win it the boring way.) |

Just got my July PC Gamer: they gave CTP a 65% and said "Don't Bother".

4 Horses-Bad (Kind of) news. I read today (Gamespot I believe) that Shogun:Total War has been pushed back a few months. Apparently the developers are adding features to it based on feedback from the E3 tradeshow. So we can look forward to it in Spring 2000 now. I am disappointed in the delay, but if it means a better game, then more power to them. Quality beats speed, in my opinion. |

Ah, yes. Braveheart does look good as well. I had forgotten. Now, if it can avoid the "crappy movie tie-in" syndrome.... |

Valtyr's mainly right. ====== Good music.Good graphics. Good sound. A [LONG STRING OF CURSEWORDS] bad interface, with shortcuts that are non-intuitive, a bad city screen, no shortcuts to screens (you have to go through so many damn menus), a messed up unit interface (looks more like a screen to control a pack of real-time strategy units). Units are bizzare, unbalanced, and weak in their execution. Good ideas are weak in execution, so end up being worse than they are. No editor until patch. Wonder movies...only one or two are good. (for the Human Genome Project, stick with the one in SMAC. it's FAR better than a skeleton spinning around.) Wonders...some are good, but replacing most of the traditional wonders makes it a bit...dumb. Ramayana? Sorry, but i don't think that's a wonder. More of a book that affected thought, like Sun Tzu's The Art of War, or Hitler's Mein Kampf. So, unless you really want it or have money to spare, i'd stick with SMAC. |

Unfortunately, this game sux! And that's about it. I have to admit that it's quite amusing. I played it nonstop a whole week, but all the time I had that empty feeling inside. "What have they done?" The answer is simple. They've made some f*cking CivLight! It sux in the major leagues! As i saw in a another post: DON'T BOTHER! It's not worth the money! |

StarSiege? Nope, not worth it. it has a good plot and all, but I'd rather wait for Mechwarrior III. On the other hand, StarSiege: Tribes is an excellent multi-player game, it's kinda like the old Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri. |

Heh heh heh. Terra Nova. That was a fun game. As far as Doom-clones go, it was pretty good. The cutscenes, though, were hilarious. The Terran ambassador was the best. He and Shatner should have a scenery-chewing contest. Note: the recon drones were a cool idea. |
