Interesting. But I dont like the way he scoffs on avarice. There is nothing wrong with seeking physical possessions. As far as Im concerned that is the meaning of life. After you die its all gone so you might as well enjoy it while you are here. And to do that you need physical possessions. Evolving to higher intelligence has nothing in it for me except obsolescence. No thanks.

Aman, that is depressing if that is really the way you think.

And what exactly is it that you want out of life that is so much better than what I want? I'm just a rational person. Life is made up of material things. And then you die and there is nothingness. Moral of the story: make the most of it while you are here. I really dont see what is wrong with that.

That's the way I look at life too. (Don't think I'm going to be making a habit of it Aman )
I always think when I see people saying things which are fun are "wrong" chill out enjoy life, when it's gone it's gone and you won't get the chance to to these things again. you have to try and live without regrets though, otherwise you'd go mad in a torrent of unfulfilled ambition.

I hate to tell you two rational people that nobody knows what happens when we die including you. That is part of the mystery of life. I think a life asorbed with material possessions would be a sad life indeed. A little less emphasis on possessions and a little more on humanity would probably do us all good.

Wow. Despite the author's support of Libertarians, that was a fine page. A very good argument on religion as well. And did you check out the link on why Asimov's 3 Laws wouldn't work, or for that matter any illogical order to an AI that isn't really dumb? HAL explained right there. Computers that either go insane or break their imposed restrictions.
Aman: Hey, that's something to live for. It's just that altruism is "better" in my and plenty of other people's eyes.

I'm confused. I thought the meaning of life was 42.
