Manchester United takes the title one point ahead of Arsenal, with Chelsea in third. Liverpool beats Wimbleduh, er I mean Wimbledon, and finishes seventh .
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Man U with their achievement.
Yeah right!

Oh no! They're here too! You can't go anywhere these days without running into United supporters, and most of them are under twelve (At least here in Norway).

Hugo Rune: Curling? I thought that was an upper class sport .

I like cricket too. Don't get to watch much of it, though. Which counties are the best?

England aren't doing too bad, Sri Lanka are past their best, South Africa and Australia are incredible, India have some amazing batsmen, Pakistan have good bowlers and the West Indies=Brian Lara.

Yes, I remember him. He was vice-captain under Atherton wasn't he? I think I can recall something about the selectors calling in Stewart as a wicketkeeper because the one they had (can't remember his name) wasn't that good a batsman. That was some years ago, though.

Yes, that's him. How could I forget? I remember writing down the whole English team and their records during a West Indies tour and an Ashes tour in Australia in the early Nineties.

Great site. It's a shame that Bolton's stadium is named after a commercial company, though. Doesn't sound right. Well, I suppose that's the way it goes these days.

I used to hate United too, but I have since changed my mind.

United is a large club in europe which actually has a democratic structure with the members chosing the board. They have resisted any attempt to be Bought up. They have a large youth movement, and almost all of their best players are "home grown" (Giggs, Beckham, The Neville Brothers, Cole, Keane). Alex Fergusson is a nice little man, not the archetype of a football manager at all. And, The club plays great football.

Valtyr posted 05-23-99 11:04 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Valtyr  Click Here to Email Valtyr
Hugo Rune: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But besides that . There are no rational reasons for why I hate them. I'm just obligated to because I, rather accidentally, happened to become a Liverpool supporter. I know ManU is the best English club and that Alex Ferguson probably is the best and nicest (he is a socialist, after all ) manager in the Premiership, but what kind of supporter would I be if I changed my allegiances to another club, just because that club were playing better football at the time? Not a very good one. My comments about hating Manchester United are all tongue-in-cheek.
I do not hate them. They're only a football club, for chrissakes.
Valtyr posted 05-23-99 11:05 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Valtyr  Click Here to Email Valtyr
BTW, Cole and Keane are not home grown players.
Brother Greg posted 05-24-99 12:08 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Brother Greg  Click Here to Email Brother Greg
Go ManU!

Add Scholes to the homegrown list. And Wes Brown. Nicky Butt. Off the top of my head, anyway...

I also though that the German Cup final was a week or so after the Champion's League final, so we wouldn't be sure if they won if they'd get the treble...

And ManU didn't exactly resist a takeover, most of the fans did but the ManU board lay back with their legs in the air screaming "Take us now Murdoch" the Monopolies and Mergers comission blocked the takeover because they thought it would be bad for football.

Cole isn't, fair enough, but Keane and Schmeichel were bought from tiny clubs so they count as Ferguson's "discoveries".

European Champions League Final at Nou Camp,
Barcelona:

Manchester United 2 Bayern Munich 1 (after extra time)

Goals by Mario Basler (Bayern), Teddy Sheringham (United), Ole Gunnar Solskjr (United).

Well, it's the treble for United and that really is an accomplishment. I was as neutral as can be watching this game, as I can't stand any of the clubs, but congratulations are in order.

Valtyr posted 05-26-99 05:25 PM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for Valtyr  Click Here to Email Valtyr
Well, this is crap. There was no extra time, so you can forget about that part of my last post. United's two goals were scored after 90 minutes of play.
