The Stranger, Part 1
-=-=-=-=-

Slow day, the cashier commented.

YoYoYoHey just shruged. How little the cashier knew. This used to be the headquarters of the might Brotherhood of Sid. Now it was yet another Starbucks, in a world of Starbucks. But the cashier was right, it was a slow day. The cold rain must be deterring people from leaving home. A few minutes later, a single customer entered into the empty coffee shop and walked up to the counter. He was wearing a long, black trenchcoat and had a fedora pulled low, so that YYYH couldnt see his face.

So this is what a normal StarBucks looks like, he commented. Ill take a coffee. Just a regular coffee.

YYYH knew something wasnt quite right with this statement, other than the fact hed just ordered a regular coffee. Unfortunately, he had a job to do. He poured the man a coffee and took the money to pay for it. He watched the man as he went and sat down at a table by the window and stared out into the wet streets, sipping the caffinated drink from time to time.

The other cashier looked perplexed. Whats he find so interesting?

YYYH didnt know. He barely even reacted when Fjorcx drove that Cesna down the street. Hed acted like it was an everyday thing. In Hunt Valley, it was of course, but he obviously wasnt from these parts. The boredom began to set in again. The other cashier sat there twiddling his thumbs, the lone customer slowly sipped on the coffee which was probably cold by now, and YYYH just stared at the clock, formulating plans for world domination. Finally the boredom broke as another customer entered the building and ordered an irish cream double mocha latte and handed the cashier his credit card.

As the cashier connected to verify the card, something strange happened. The computer began to make strange noises and even began to shake its way across the counter. YYYH, the cashier and the customer backed away from the possessed machine slowly. The stranger calmly finished his coffee and stood up, not disturbed in the slightest by what was happening.

The eyes of the other 3 widened as one side of the computer shattered and a small demon jumped out. It sat there for a moment and looked around, only to see the man in the trenchcoat approaching it. It turned to him and jumped. With almost blinding speed, a shotgun emerged from beneath the coat and blasted the demon. As the stranger threw his cup in the garbage and left, all that was left of the demon was a rather large stain on the wall.

YYYH never even thought of reaching for his own concealed weapon.

Unorthodox Special Agent jsorense still had yet to find anything useful in CWALs dumpster. Hed been searching for days this time out, and it was time for a bit of air. He stuck his head out and looked around just in time to see the tails of a trenchcoat slip around the corner.

I thought I was the only one spying on CWAL!

With that, jsorense jumped out of the dumpster and chased off after the figure. He barely reached the street in time to see the figure head into another doorway. Not wanting to be too obvious, jsorense climbed up the fire escape and through the window. He turned the corner only to be greeted by the mysterious person holding a shotgun to his head.

"How can you be two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?"
Firesign Theater (1975 ish)
From "All Hail Marx and Lennon" ( I think).

Ummmmmm, I am getting a little confused here guys and I haven't even had my usual medication yet. I could have sworn I was safely back in the IIIS secret headquarters filling out requisitions for Exile, not out in the field spying on a few failed conquers of the universe.
Are you ganging up on me for any special reason or just for fun?
Remember, even paranoids can have enemies.

Ah, relax.

CWAL fact #239: Characters can be in more than one place at the same time, they just can't be playing critical roles at both places. Usually.

Don't worry, not ganging up on you. Yet

jsorense is pounding his fist on his not-quite-desk in a tizzy-fit.

"Whadaymean I'm not playing critcal roles!
Why I was playing critically roles before you were even a . . . . . .!
Two places at once, you say?
You mean I could be over there spying on intergalactic criminals like the CWAL HV gang, and be sitting in a bar drinking beer at the same time?
Kewl!"

jsorense wanders away with a bemused grin on his face.

Special Agent SnowFire of the BoS (ret.) strolls along an Algerian beach after a short fight between a few CWAL thugs and one of his buddies, another retired BoSer Raymond Coble. His buddy is out of action for awhile, but SnowFire decides to keep walking along the beach anyway. Before he leaves, he takes Raymond's gun.

Snow is walking along, when he sees one of the CWAL thugs again. But he doesn't seem to be attacking, he's just a form in the shimmering sun. But it looks like he's lying near a spring. Desperate to get the sun off of him, Snow moves forward, toward the thug. Then he whips his blade out at Snow, seemingly in slow motion. The sun pounds on them from overhead. The glare from the blade is like a spear coming into Snow's eyes. Snow pulls his gun out. He fires. And then he fires again. And again. And again. And again.

"Damn. I thought all this stuff was over a long long time ago."

The cops come for Snow, still holding the gun in his hand over the dead thug.

(blatanly stolen from L'Etranger (The Stranger), a really bad book I have to read for class by Albert Camus)

CWAL stands for Can't Wait Any Longer. It was originally created in 1997 in the Starcraft Suggestions Forum before Blizzard's game Starcraft went gold (was finished and ready to be shipped), everybody on that forum was anticipating this new hyped up game, and a small group of forumers made a fictional chain of stories on breaking into Blizzard's building and stealing the prototype game on the Suggestions Forum. It was intended as a joke at first but people liked it and caught on and so CWAL was created, and many many new members joined and made stories about miscellaneous things. I did not know that they had spread to other areas such as SMAC. So as you can see I've actually been around for quite awhile now.

Yes, but CWAL HV (Hunt Valley) has been around since November '98, the opening of the old test forum.

I'm fine! I haven't been on Mount Olympus in awhlie, how is it up there? I hope you got out of that awful Roman dress armor, though the purple cloak was cool...

Well, it was something like this: the guy in the book's name was Raymond. And what forum member's first name is Raymond... hmm. Ah, the Director General! Plus, my memory was aided from Octopus's cross-link thread that had the link to the old old Site forum, where you had made a post to Mike Ely about putting the story on CD, which apperantly never got done... oh well.

Damn, I'm gone for a few days and this happens.

Kf6, it sounds like you have been a Pilot's Lounge regular during the childhood of CWAL. Sure you weren't avare that CWAL has "liberated" Brood Wars, Alpha Centauri and Worms: Armageddon in addition to Starcraft. Check out their web page at http://cwal.tech-base.com

And DN, nice story. Thumbs up!
