If you put your message between the greater than and less than signs (Ie << and >>) Then you lose the message!!! It's the howlers, I tell you! Howlers!

What you do is- you type, say, >hello<. Here I've used the special codes, so don't get confused. You can type that in straight, and it will dissapear. |

I can't tell if people aren't understanding what is going on, or what, but here is the "problem": This forum allows you to post HTML tags in your text. An HTML tag is of the form <tag>. What happens when you enclose some text between the < and > symbols is that the text in the middle is interpreted as an HTML tag by your browser. Now, in most cases the text you have is not well-formed HTML (i.e. your text isn't a real HTML tag), so it doesn't have any effect. The stuff you've typed is showing up, though. Use your browser's "view source" feature and see for yourself. For example, in his post of 05-17-99 05:41 PM ET, CrayonX tried to post <<helpme>>.The HTML interpretation is what causes this to happen when I type <i>this to happen</i> in when I am posting. HTML is easy to learn. HTML is also easy to abuse -- just look at some of the HTML threads that have sprung up recently.

I'm using IE and I can't seem to locate the "view source" option. (Geez I should know this stuff, I've been programming for 10 years!) |

In the View menu, select: Source (this is IE 3.0, I don't know if they've changed it since...). You can also get it by right clicking to get the pop-up menu.

This also allows you to bypass censoring, like this: fuck.I sure hope this works, otherwise I'll have to post in the 'post here if you are a moron' thread |
