I've run into this problem recently. I running under WIN 95. I've made sure that I have no other programs running in the background, used the latest patches, etc. I receive a "This program has performed an illegal operation" error, with the following details; (please see below)

TERRAN caused a divide error in module TERRAN.EXE at 016f:00553d5b.

Are you getting this in game, after playing for a while? If so, and the map is large or huge, it seems likely you're exhausting virtual memory. Make sure you've got 200+ megs free on your swap file hard drive (default c:\), that the drive is defragmented, and the you've set windows to manage the swap file size (rather than specifying an exact amount).
