I'm trying to play SMAC Multiplayer on a Win98 machine connected to the Internet via a cable modem, NT Server Proxy Server, and a LAN. I am unable to start DirectPlay for TCP/IP games, although I have been able to make SMAC work via Kali.
I know that info has been posted regarding setting up MS Proxy for DirectX 6+ and have complied with that. I am only able to get as far as the Join screen, where players sign in and select options. I tested with another computer hooked to the Internet via Dial-Up Networking. I am able to see both players on the external (DUN) computer--sometimes the other player is red, but the internal (LAN-Cable Modem) computer only sees its own player.

Has anyone come up with a viable solution to make SMAC work from behind a proxy server?

Thanks,
Craig
