Do I just unzip it into the folder where SMAC is installed, and then I'm ready to go? I've done this, but am not sure it's running v4.0 now. How can I check that? Also, I have not been experiencing any of the slow-downs on loading saved games that I've been reading about in here -- this leads me to believe that I must have installed the patch incorrectly.
I'm running an AMD K6-2 450 with 128 MB of RAM, an ATI Rage Fury 128 card, and a SBLive! Value sound card. (Just in case y'all need that info).

My patch came as an .exe file rather than a .zip.
Yes it expanded into the folder being used, overwriting the originals I guess, and all was well.
If you can get the game running then the help menu has a show version option.
In my case, I installed recently, and the game was already so slow on my machine, the extra delay was noticeable, but hardly.
What I don't understand is why it takes so long to find the picture when asking for load game confirmation (or why it asks anyway !). Surely the picture should come up instantaneously, it is the actual loading after confirmation that should take all the time.
