Even so I installed the game complete it still insists on having the CD mounted in the drive in order to load. Which is a complete and utter pain since my notebook (Sony Vaio 505) has no build -in CD drive. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated. Ta in advance TL

Wich version of SMAC do you own?
I'm almost sure that, after patch 4, US and UK english version are free of this kind of "copy protection", so if not already done I suggest you to upgrade SMAC.
Anyway, if you had enough disk space you can try to "fake" the game with some kind of utilities that copy all the files in a special compressed one and make a "virtual CD" on hard disk, then tell to Windows there is a proper CD installed.
I never tried one, but I know at least one on FTP sites. I want to avoid any kind of "SPAM" suspect at this forum, so if you want to know the name please tell me an e-mail address of you and I'll send the name and the URL by private mail.
Please note: use of that software without the owning of proper SMAC CD licence is, of course, "Piracy" - at your own risk!

Sure thing, u where right my friend one of the 2 smacs did sort that problem.
