Topic: Why is Hive's stuff so powerful?

Why is the Hive's equipment so much more powerful than mine? I just had two undamaged quantum hovertanks with armor one step up from 'Probability sheath' in a base with a perimeter defense destroyed by one half-dead helicopter with no armor and a plasma shard! And I routinely have to spend 6 quantum gun needlejets to kill ONE plasma sentinel with SILKSTEEL armor! As in he kills them dead! Regular missiles won't kill the bastard, they just soften him up.One of the hives -terraformers- killed an undamaged DEMON BOIL Locusts of Chiron. What is up with this!?

Maybe you should use the Hive as your faction in the future. PR |

First guesses would be reactor and morale.Have any details on these aspects? The armor on a chopper attacking your hovertanks is irrelevant. As to the "6 quantum gun needlejets to kill ONE plasma sentinel with SILKSTEEL armor", how can a plasma sentinel have silksteel armor? Isn't it a silksteel sentinel? Either way, did it have an Aero Complex factored into its defense? Does it have AAA ability. Were your jets air superiority? Again, what are the reactors and morale levels involved? Taken all together, there is insufficient data either to answer your question or to posit the existence of a bug. It is small wonder you get flippant answers. I have no clue about the former/locust thing. Neural Amplifier and bad luck, maybe. |

A flippant answer that was amusing, or indicated the need for more information would have been ok.It said 'plasma sentinel' as the unit name, and 'silksteel armor' in the listing next to it during the fight. I dunno why...No aero base, if I remember right, and it didn't mention AAA ability...I think the Hive at the time had the #2 reactor ('Fusion'?), and I had the singularity engine and neutronium armor (on the tanks). It's moot now, I beat the game mostly by ignoring the Hive, but it was still annoying. |

Another problem with the Hive is that the 'Urgent message from Chairman Yang' message will pop up with no option to ignore it, five times in a row, then give the message. |

I get the same "Urgent Message" thing but I get it with the Gaians instead. Funny thing is I used to get the same thing with Civilization 2. |

Also, keep in mind that morale makes a vast difference. You didn't mention what the morale of the fighters are. Hive (especially with Command Nexus or Cyborg Factory) typically has a very good morale. Thus, even if you have technologically superior forces, if your troops are green while his are commando, you won't do too well. You can fight this by building Command Centres, Bioenhancement Centres, and Aerospace complexs at any base that makes military, or Socal Engineer to a higher Morale state. |

Mine were commando, his were at most elite. (I forget what two steps down from 'commando' is.) I had the Cyborg Factory, plus command centers, plus a monolith right next to the city they were built in. |

I'm playing the hardest level and it's pretty much me (as Lal) vs. Yang. He's pretty tough, but not too bad. We're probably about even. The best defense is definitely a strong offense in this game. Of course, he can send a planet buster from over 40 squares away (see thread on this). |

I play The Hive explicitly and kick ass on every level. Maybe you should switch sides? What's weird is that my formers repeatedly kick serious butt. ONE former took out SEVEN needlejets (on defense, green, librarian level). Sure my tech was high, but I just left the victory off as good luck. After reading your thread, however, I am lead to believe that maybe there is something beyond this. I dunno. All I know is The Hive kicks major bootie. I don't know what I'd do without them. -Kai

Also.. I get the repeated 'pop-up' dialogue screen problem with Morgan. weird, huh? |

How long does a thread have to be before Firaxis take notice and give us a bug fix. I find I can't even talk to the Gaians when the "pop up" error occurs. |

Yes, i'd just like to say I've been having the same problems as you guys. The Hive is bloody annoying, to say the least, but the Spartans are a good race to play against them. The thing I don't like about the Hive is that the Citizens Defence Force is useless for them, but you need to build it anyways to prevent others from having it. |
