Hi, I need some help with your version 4.0 of the upgrade. I downloaded the patch and installed it. It goes through the entire upgrade process but when it gets to the sound.dll file it tells me that it can't install it and shuts down. After this error my game will not play and I have to unistall and reinstall from scratch. This is very frustrating since I had posted several messages with regard to errors that I was having with v3.0 and even sent a very detailed e-mail to Jeff Morris for help with the v3.0 problem but never received a reply to either. I was hoping that v4.0 would solve my problems and allow me to play this game that I like so much but no such luck. Please, please, please let me know what is going on with this!

Is this the UK version? We found some problems with the installshield installation of euro-versions, namely it will fail to un-write protect some files during the file transfer from the CD. That sounds like the problem here. Make sure that the sound.dll isn't read-only (right-click on the file, select properties, and uncheck read-only). An alternative is to extract the files into an temp directory and then copy the contents of that folder into the game's.

No, this was purchased in the U.S. I will, however, check to make sure the file can be written to and if that isn't the problem I will try to copy the files individually. I'll let you know. Thanks.

Well, the sound.dll file was read only so after I took this off I was able to install the version 4 patch. Thanks. I will play for a while to see if I am still having problems. I'll let you know.

Well, it seems that the v.4 patch works. I finally was able to play a game through to the end. Transcended on Thinker level! It was really good to get through a complete game. Thanks for the help.
