![]() ![]() ![]() Any issues regarding a machine inside a cable modem-hooked-up-to-an- IP-Masquaraded-box trying to connect to another server? Our network is only doing masquarading, not packet filtering... Can't seem to do it, and haven't seen any complaints about it elsewhere.. =( |

![]() ![]() ![]() I guess I should add some more detail... Trying to play a direct-ip game. Can anyone tell me what happens when you try to connect to a server? Does it try to open a reverse-connection on another port(s)? Which ones? |

![]() ![]() ![]() I am having the same problem. My ip masquerading machine is a Linux box. When I am trying to connect to someone else my machine makes a connection out to port 47624 both udp and tcp, but a connection is not established. I guess the Alpha Centauri host makes a connection back to my IP, which is blocked by the firewall. I will try to run tcpdump to trace down exactly what is happening with AC's internet connection. Any assistance the AC creators can provide would be nice! |

![]() ![]() ![]() I figured it out! If you are trying to join a game from behind a linux firewall, you need to setup ipautofw, which will forward a bunch of ports from the server to a computer. In this case, you want to forward ports 2300 - 2400 (both tcp and udp) to the computer you are trying to connect from. See the IP Masquerading HOWTO for more instructions. For hosting a game you need to do the same, but also forward tcp and udp port 47624 to the server you are trying to host on, as well as the ports 2300 - 2400. Email me at [email protected] if you get this to work or if it causes problems. |
