I have just installed the 4.0 patch over the 2.0 version, and when I start the game, I get the mandatory retirement popup at Year 1!! The game goes through its entire end of game cycle, etc. What's wrong?I am running the game on a PII-350, Creative AWE64 soundcard, Diamond Viper 550 graphics card.

Sounds like you modified the alpha centauri.ini file. Either delete that file and start a new game (which will create a new one) or reinstall and reapply v4.jkm firaxis games |

Hello, I had the same problem and I tried deleting the .ini file. While I had to redo my rules settings, it still caused a my 1 mandatory retirement. before I delteed the old ini file, I looked at its date, and it was yesterday. I know I didn't edit it yesterday. Is there any other way than reinstalling to fix this problem. (I don't quite like how the registry gets messy from reinstalling aps) Thanks

I figured out a fix. Install the version 3 patch, then install version 4 patch. Game starts at correct year then. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the documentation somewhere.(dont worry about reinstalling if you have the problem already, install version 3, it will say something about not being able to replace a file, and ignore. you can either play v 3, or install v4 which works fine then too.) |

Uh, that's probably not a good idea. The patch requires no specific version, beyond v1. If it's failing to copy a file (for whatever reason), you've got a partial version with will most likely cause all kinds of problems. V1-V3 should be able to apply v4 without any problems. Let me know the details of anything that doesn't work like that.jkm firaxis games |
