I get an error stating, "TERRAN.EXE caused fault #c0000005 in TERRAN.EXE at address 0177:0060294d."

I have been paying attention to the other posts concerning problems with V 3, trying all of the suggested fixes, EAX and DS3D changes in Alpha Centauri.ini, renaming the sound.dll file. I had no problems with V1. I had some problems with V2, but enough that I could play. V3 is absolutely out of reach for me, crashing just five minutes (if that) into a game. I received the same error in both V2 and V3.
