This didn't happen until my most recent game, but it's happened twice in that game. The mouse no longer works... or, rather, the cursor still moves but button-clicks don't work and stuff that's supposed to respond to a mouse-over doesn't. Quitting and restarting the game fixes it.The driver is the standard MS mouse driver with a generic mouse. P133, 32M RAM. I haven't changed anything system-wise (well, I put it in a higher resolution but that was done during earlier games where this problem didn't manifest). The problem doesn't extend to Windows itself; having quit the game, the mouse works fine. And it's Enhancement 3.0. I don't remember the world settings offhand; I /think/ small map, random world (not custom).

I had play SMAC with version 1.0i, 2.0 without problems. Now in version 3.0 I have the same problem like you. You can change the position of the mouse corsor, but button-clicks are without changing anything. This happend to me two times in history, but I think, it is, if you want to click into a city to open the city screen and your computer is still working on the moving units part of your turn (special: formers). But I think it isnt the computer. My:1.) PII 266 / 128 MB / Logi Cordless Wheel Mouse 2.) Celeron 366 / 64 MB / Touchpad SMAC german, enhancement 3.0 (both computers have the same problem)

Eris....its not your mouse that is the problem...its a bug.I have three different types of mice and they all have had the same problem, also it has happened to me in every version so it is a problem since the begginning that has not been addressed. But you do not have to quit the game and restart to fix the problem. Try this ...it has worked for me.. Scroll your mouse around quickly in circles and click on an empty square somewhere on the map then come back to the unut and try again ..if that doesnt work(always do that first)...then scroll to left side of screen and see if you can open your menu screen. Open if you can then close...go back to unit and it should respond. Always works for me. Try it and see if it helps. I have noticed another weird thing though with the mouse(I use the mouse to move my units, not the keyboard as I tend to forget sometimes which key for which direction and moving in the wrong direction is sometimes a 1 year setback for some units. I dont like to restart if I dont have to. Also I am mouse oriented as opposed to keyboard oriented anyway).. Anyway the problem is that when you use your mouse, the direction to move the unit in is denoted on the screen with a normal arrow icon. Sometimes if I stutter with the mouse and move the cursor, the mouse arrow icon turns into a much larger and wider yellow arrow icon with what looks like freakin pinstriping on it. And when I click to move to that position nothing happens. I have to rescroll to where I want to go and do it once or twice to get back the original "normal" arrow icon and do it again to go where I want to go. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or had any other mouse phenomena happen to them.To me this racecar, pinstriped arrow icon thing is weird. |

Actually the EXACT same thing happened to me in Everquest (in combat no less). I'll see if I can't research the problem a little.jkm firaxis games |

Maybe it's your graphics acceleration. Try turning it down a notch..... |

Eris - I have seen this problem many times in SMAC. I usually swap out of SMAC. When I swap back in and click anywhere in SMAC, SMAC starts taking mouse clicks again. Otherwise, I would save and exit and restart SMAC.OW - Thanks. I'll try your fix. -Darkstar |
