I downloaded v3.0 last week, and ended up with an experience similar to what kempo123 reports in a nearby thread, but worse. I first got the TERRAN.exe caused a crash error message, even though I also have a Crash Guard program.

I tried to follow the Windows 98 messages to fix, but now I can't even get my computer back to a 256 color/1024x728 setting. When it reboots, it returns to 16 colors and the lowest pixel setting. I took SMAC off the computer in hopes of fixing things, but the problems persist. Of course, I can't even run SMAC (or most any other CD-ROM) in 16 colors. This is bizarre, and a bit infuriating; I was content without the patch, and now I've got a 500 Mhz Dell computer that acts and performs like an old 286. Any suggestions?

I'd first start off by disableing your Crash Guard, as I've seen those things cause more problems then they fix. Then go into your Device Manager and see if there are any devices with the yellow ! next to them. Sounds like your video card hiccuped, or you installed Direct X divers for a card it didn't support. If that was the case, go into your dxdiag program and uninstall the dX video drivers..Or reinstall your video drivers for your card.

Thanks, Axe. Your advice is right on the money. I checked with Dell Tech Support last night, and they determined the patch disabled my Driver. We took it off, rebooted, and when the computer recognized and reinstalled the Driver, I was able to bring the computer back up to full capability after the next reboot. So far so good - a lesson learned about patch v3.0.
