posted 04-20-99 09:52 AM ET For those of you running NT and a Sound Blaster and are having some stuttering problems with SMAC, you may want to try their new NT 4.0 drivers. http://support.soundblaster.com/files/newfiles.asp. FYI.

Unfortunatley, on my system these new drivers made the stuttering worse. Now sound on the videos stutter too. I think I'm going re-install the old drivers.

The stuttering is not worse, but no better. This is still a DirectX issue w/NT4 - the NT5 betas run SMAC as well as Win95/98 does - because both support DirectX 6.x. Unless Microsoft puts it in Service Pack 5, nothing good is going to happen to improve the sound issue under NT. Unless...
Jeffrey - in the proposed SMACX, would it be that difficult to provide traditional sound support as well as DirectX sound? Having a switchable option would make a lot of angry SMAC players much happier. Since sound was fine under the other Sid Meier game engines, seems like that should be a viable possibility.
