It isn't just the sb16 cards that are having problems with the v30 patch... I have a PCI ds-xg sound card and on the 6th move of a pbem game... it crashed... renaming the sound.dll file worked (but I liked the sound)... so if your looking for info for the next patch (to fix the last patch) allow me to add this...

AMD K6 200mmx
64ram
ds-xg(yamaha) PCI (soundbalster compat)soundcard
Complete install...
directx 6.1 installed
patch 3.0 installed
US version

It's misdetecting your soundcard's A3D capabilities. Set the EAX and DS3D settings in the alpha centauri.ini file to 0.

I did this and the game no longer crashes but the sound now skips and studders... (I had a simular problem when I first got the game but I did a full install and the game ran perfectly.... )

Got any help for that one?....I love this game and IMHO the sound is one of the greatest features (You guys did a great job on the voices) and I would love to be able to play my email games with sound again...

Thanks

btw I did test with dxdiag and got the error msg that Hardware buffer could not be tested and only software buffer will be used...I also got the error that 3d buffer could not be tested so only software will be used....

If that helps...

I am having the same problem, did you find a solution for the echoing? tried everything, but the echoes just stay...

Actually I did.... to stop the stuttering and echoing I went under control panel, system, performance, file system, hard drive, and set the read ahead down to 32k (as opposed to the 64k)

I have my Alpha on a full install so I changed the hard drive read ahead... if your running off the CD try knocking down the CD read ahead....

Thanks for everyone's help.... I can play once more!!!
