I have run into simular problems before. It seems that allot of the programs you buy now days are looking for Intel or Intel like chips. The older ADM's and Cyrix chips don't pass some of the tests. I had to get a patch that fixed the problem with my DR WHO game when I had an older Cyrix a P166 chip.

As far as I've seen SMAC won't run reliably on older Cyrix and AMD K5's. Might also effect non-MMX K6's but not sure cause I've seen that message on a K6-166 and then it worked fine on another system with that CPU. *shrug*
Works fine with IBM/Cyrix MMX chips, MII's, MMX K6's, K6-2's, and K6-3's.
