I have a habit of speaking to soon, only to find that what I put doesn't hold next day... but ... After a period of thinking that it was too frustrating playing SMAC and I ought to give it up (at least until I got a more powerful computer) I downloaded the UK patch 3 yesterday and.... I played for hours last night with not a single crash !!!! OK MemTurbo was running in the background too (just in case) but that only seemed to be giving a minor improvement. This post is just my recommendation to get patch 3 if you are having problems. It might just help. PS As I had renamed sound.dll to nosound.dll because another thread suggested the AWE Gold board might be causing problems. I didn't appreciate the heart stopping crash out mid-upgrade. Not convinced it was necessary. |
