I just got Alpha Centauri and I can't get it to work. I have Windows NT and I did the full installation. I have Sevice pack 3 for windows and patch 3.1 for Alpha Centauri. I've tried presetting my set to 256 colors 640x480 but it doesn't work. The problem is when I run it the screen shows the logo and loads for a little while then just freezes. I know on the box it said it was for Windows 95/98 so im starting to wonder. I've emailed Tech Support already. If anyone else is having this problem and fixed it i'd like to hear, thanks.

For what it's worth, I'm having exactly the same problem on a Dell G1 that uses an ATI 3D Rage Pro driver...

Hi all,

Not that I'm an expert, but wouldn't you need SP4 to get the directX uptodate? I'd go for that!

Might I ask where you got patch 3.1 from for SMAC?

1) I believe the game requires 800*600 to run
2) It's because of winNT's lacking directX that NT is not officially supported. Some have got it running, but others haven't

Ive had that problem too.. but long as i don't touch the keyboard while the cd is reading at the start.. and just let it load till the firaxis logo movie screen, it works just fine.. but if i want to lock my computer up... i just start the game and hit a key imediately... i also have had it lock up after trying to restart it while windows was clearing its "virtual memory" of smac from a previous time running.. ie. 15s-1min after exiting smac before
