Topic: Tons 'o' Transports - Weird AI building bug?

In my current game, the Believers embarked on some truly bizarre production strategies. I think they built literally over 100 "AAA Fusion Transport" ships, and have them wandering all over the globe (almost always empty, but usually in flotillas). Really odd. Is this sort of thing typical? Maybe it's all a maskirovka campaign to lull me into a false sense of security so that I won't notice the heavily laden transport with 12 Veteran Marine units or something?

Oh great, another d----! <g>This happens quite a bit, though I've never seen *that* many transports for an AI faction. The AI seems to think to build another transport when it needs one, rather than recycling the old. It may be because the AI routines are not tuned for water maps (or water at all?). d.brodale |

Yesterday the believers stocked atleast 7 formers in one of their cities... Now I understand why Firaxis included a 'copter in the game... ;-) -- Rune

AI has a problem somewhere. What I've noticed is that if I've been hitting them with aircraft they will start building everything with AAA capabilities, but it seems that when it comes to naval units it builds this AAA Transport in preference to anything else that would make sense for defending their bases. Strange but I've seen it too where they'll end up building 1-2 in every port but have almost nothing else there for air defense. |

I wonder if, in my case, it was a combination of two reactions mutating into something bizarre? If I recall correctly, I had been sinking a bunch of their transports with air power. Maybe the AI interpreted two "lessons" from that: 1. Omigod, we need more transports! 2. Omigod, we need more AAA units! And producing a ridiculous number of AAA Transports fulfilled both objectives? |

Well, I just finished that game, and took a look at the Believers' stuff at the end. They had 170(!) active AAA Fusion Transports at the end of the game, and lost 43 of them. |

The best part is that AAA transports are impossible units... |

Well u can't expect them to get the ai right for everything... They did a good enough job. Just be thankful its building aaa transports instead of drop singularity behemoths r something fun like that |
