I don�t know wich version of alpha i have...
i live in sweden, but im not so sure it�s bought here..
Is there a way to check this?

I have the same problem. I�m swedish and are playing a version of the game bought in Sweden. When I try to install any patch (I have tried botg UK or US) I get an error message. And appearently, there are more people out there with the same problems (you don�t have to go further than this forum!). So, my question is: FIRAXIS, YOU HAVE DONE A GREAT GAME, BUT HOW TO PATCH IT???

I�d just like to add that the error message in the patch program is pretty weird to:
"Old File was not found. However, a file with the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."
What I mean is;
1) If the old file wasn�t found, how is it possible for the program to find a file with the same name? Isn�t that what "old file" means?
2) If the file contents matched, there wouldn�t be any need to upgrade, now would it?
This is all very strange...

I'm having exactly the same problem. I managed to update to v2.0 OK but now with this v3.0 I get that - "Old File was not found. However, a file with the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." error message as well - just when it gets to terran.exe. I have tried reinstalling SMAC but still get it. I have tried both the UK and the US patches. OK so my SMAC box says "Asia Pacific Edition" on it - but I had used the US v2.0 patch without this kind of problem. What's the story?? Surely we aren't the only ones with this problem.

I just redownloaded the US version of v3.0 patch and now it's patched it fine. I did try that renaming sound.dll but I can't see how that could have helped. It caused an old file not found error then I renamed it back and ran the patch again - all fine. The thing is I don't see how running the US patch again could have fixed it _unless_ Firaxis has changed the patch file since the first time I downloaded it - which is probably likely. I was then able to run the UK patch (I prefer UK English since I live in New Zealand) and it ran fine over the US patched SMAC. I wish other people with this problem good luck - and also I've got to say to the Support People here - I empathise - I work for a Helpdesk in a Software company too ;o) Keep up the good work!
