I've decided to junk the sound card on desktop pc after SMAC being the thrid game in a row to have a problem. What card do you recommend for a replacement? I just need it for games and would preferably like one that does not do the 'echo' with SMAC. My system is p133, with some OEM SB 32 piece of junk.

SBLive is nice, value or full version should both do about the same in SMAC, but full version is cool to impress your gamer friends with. |

I'd get a soundblaster 16. It's what I have. Okay, it's extremely unimpressive, but I have yet to have a problem with SMAC running (at least in singe player). (And discouting the one time I attempted to run it whilst my hard drive was defragging itself. Oops). Plus, they should be really inexpensive by now. |

the echo was suppose to be fixed in v3.0 but even before 3.0, the only time i had any sound problems was when my anti-vir program ran a scan (forgot to turn it off when i started the game). I have a Rage LT PRO AGP 2X Winner hands down. |

I don't know about the *best* card, but don't get the SB AWE 32; I've been having problems with mine.... and I bought it because my old card had problems with this game (and some others) just like you |

I've got an AWE 64 Lite with 6 month old drivers (which I should probably update) I haven't had any problems with any game. It does OK sound wise but my speakers are a bit crap. |

I went out and bought a Sound Blaster PCI128 card. Works pretty well so far. Only issue now is that some sounds don't play when I first start the program even though I enbabled all sounds and music in the previous session. I may need to play around with the AC.ini file a bit.I have to agree with another poster on this board that PCI works better than the ISA cards. In my own recent experience, for what thats worth. I also doubled my memory from 32 to 64, which helped the game run much smoother. Thanks for the recommendations! |
