Is anyone else getting zero effect from the singularity engine upgrade? After I upgrade my units to the singularity engine, I still have only the 30 hit points that I had with the quantum chamber, noit the 40 that I expect. This hapned consistently under version 2.0, and I sent a saved game to Jeff Morris several weeks ago. When version 3.0 was released, I reinstalled SMAC and applied the patch. However, when I worked my way up the the singularity engine, I still received only 30 hit points. Since I've only seen a couple of posts on this subject, either it's not a widespread problem or I've read the rules wrong (or, as in some other cases, this is an undocumented variance from the written rules). In any case, I'd appreciate hearing if others have had the same problem or not.

Yeah, the singularity engine only give 30 hits here as well (on v3.0), it does reduce cost for high tech units like a 24!-12-4*4 Cloaked Hover Behemoth (Cloaked, Blink) however. And it also has the stated 24% (??) hit on drop as well. |

The bug is in the manual, not in the game, Firaxis told me. Because of cost improvement, improved range for aircraft, improved crater size for PBs, improved transport load, and reduced cost, the sing. engine is still an improvement. |

It is still a bug in the game. Someone (I can't remember who) reported that singularity engined vehicles still get hit by Psi attacks in multiples of 4 (so that with 40 HPs they're just as vulnerable as other units) but they only have 30 HPs so they die faster than non-singularity units against the worms. This has got to be a problem.James |

Funny how I just posted the same question in a different folder of this bulletin. I agree that it should be 40 because that's what all the documentation says. I bet the programmers changed it last minute because it seemed too unfair (did you know the ODDS of winning a battle are for the most part the ratio between the units' strength*power?) In any case, if enough people point out how they feel to Firaxis, maybe they'll change it to 40 in the next patch. |
