After I installed v3.0 the sound no longer works after the opeining video. I've allready tried disabling the files in alphacentauri.ini (like ds3d) and it doesn't do anything. Can someone help me?

I am having the same problems. The Version installed from the CD worked perfectly. Version 3 has no sound after the opening.

I have a Crystal SoundFusion. It was what Dell was shipping with PII's in the fall.

Try doing a complete reinstall, apply the patch, and disable both EAX and DS3D in the alpha centauri.ini file. That's pretty much the MO for the game misdetecting your hardware (no sound after movie), and the new sound.dll was modified heavily (to add A3D support).

I have installed the 3.0 patch and find the sound quality is poorer than it was for the 2.0 version (some static and crackling during some of the clips). Are there features that can be disabled to restore the audio to version 2.0? My sound card is a Turtle Beach Montego A3D PCI 64 Voice. Note the sound when I had version 2.0 installed was flawless.

The EAX and DS3D settings mentioned in my last post would do the trick.

Just to let other's know. I could not get any game sound using patch 2.0. I did not have any EAX or DS3D lines in my Alpha Centauri, ini file. I got patch 3.0 and the game sound then worked. Then the game would crash when research was done before the speech. I then checked the ini file and there were the EAX and DS3D lines set to 1. I set both of them to 0 and the game works fine. Thank's for the info!
