I uploaded the patch and installed it. On saved files, it worked. When starting any new game, after the first turn, the message, mandoritory retirement at MY 1 was given with full effects.

I delete SMAC from my harddisk. Reinstalled SMAC, then the V3 patch. Same thing happens.
Suggestions? Solutions?

Modifying the alpha.txt is what causes this. After uninstalling the game, delete the entire firaxis folder, then reinstall and apply the patch.

I have the same problem, year gets set to zero and then as soon as my pod land, year becomes one and I am forced to retire.

So, I uninstalled Alpha Cent, physically deleted the entire folder it was resident in. Then I did a fresh install into a completely new folder. Applied the patch. Same problem.

Any other thoughts Firaxis team? Or anyone else for that matter....

I found that having a copy of the alpha.txt file in a NON-SMAC directory would cause the version 3.0 update not to work. You need to delete or rename all alpha.txt files, so that the installed one can be update4d correctly. I an not sure why this would needed, but I had to do it to get it to work.
