I recently bought SMAC and its version 1.0, UK version. If I had known about the patches and so on I would have bought the US-version instead. But know I bought the UK and my dealer says "Tuff luck".So, the question: Is it possible to change version online? Or somewhere I can send my original UK verison and get a US instead? I live in Sweden.

I live in sweden too and the version i got was 1.01. Btw where does one see if it`s us/uk version? there isn`t exactly a big flashing sticker on the box saying "Uk Version" or "US Version" if i didn`t know better it could have been a "German version" that I have bought. Luckily it wasn`t |

Start the Help-file (in SMAC folder) and check it out. If you got the UK-version its all there. Copyright by blah, blah U.K.If not, you have the US-version. AND I REALLY.... would like to recieve an answer from Fireaxis about how to change version!

The only difference between the US and UK versions is the file TERRAN.EXE.You can download a US TERRAN.EXE and replace the file on your harddisk with this. This will "upgrade" your game to the US version. You may now use the US v3.0 patch. Seems like the old link to the US TERRAN.EXE is gone, so here is a new one: http://members.xoom.com/sadosaddam/terran.zip Just download it, unzip it to your Alpha Centauri folder and enjoy your new US version! I thought that the easiest way to tell was to leave the CD in the box (afterr installing obviously). If you can play, it's the US version (crashes excepted). |

GaryDTried that one and it works. The UK must have the CD in the drive to start. Then changed the terran.exe to US version. No problem to start (must do a complete installation though). Thanks for pointing that out. Much easer than looking through the files for clues. |

There be Swedes here.Gteborg, nope, is hometown though. UK-versions may be detected by the following: (Non Smac specific, and non complete list) - UK version, printed on back of CD box. - EU sign on box, may mean adopt/sorry, messy sw. - Sometimes the box has the text, may not be sold in US etc. Ever wondered over why? When purchasing any game in Sweden DEMAND the info, of which version of the game they are selling. If they do not sell the version they stated you may revoke the purchase they have broken in proper sales ethic and can be sued otherwise. Have witness just in case. Be loud. -g- Works for me. But I am an old chap by know. Just not fully grown up. :p E. |
