Yep -- what worked for me was a fresh install from the CD then ran the 3.0 update ontop of that. I think the .ini file was really the problem, you might want to try renaming that, running the game and let it recreate it. I didn't try that so I don't know if it will work, I'm just suspicious based on what happened and the fact that the new .ini is different in content. |

No. I went from v2.0 to v3.0.

The "retire after one turn" means that your ALPHA.TXT is not a 3.0 version (most likely you copied an edited version back in after installing patch?)There are a few extra lines added to the "basic rules" section of ALPHA.TXT in version 3.0. If you have an edited file from a previous version, you'll have to find and insert the correct additional lines in order to use it with version 3. BR |

I've been stuffing around with my alpha.txt so I reinstalled ... now v3 won't touch alpha.txt! I can upgrade it to v2, but not v3 Have to keep plugging. If I find a solution I'll post it here. James |

I have not touched any of the .txt files and it worked. As per Jeff's response, you might need to reinstall.stick

You need to make sure that all files in the SMAC folder were deleted when you uninstalled, the uninstall program will not remove any changed of modified files or any additions. Uninstall, then save any files you want to another folder elsewhere then delete the SMAC folder, re-install, add the patch and you should be ok. If you have done this please ignore the above but maybe some other forum reader needs to know this.Regards,O. |
