![]() ![]() I just successfully downloaded the 3.0 patch and attempted to install it. After asking me for the location of terran.exe, it begins the upgrade, and then I get the following message: "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." I'm using 2.0. I tried replacing the terran.exe file on my hard-drive with the copy of terran.exe from the CD, and I got the same message. Please help! -M. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Try totally reinstalling the game and then using the 3.0 patch; don't use the 2.0 patch, go straight to the newest one. It worked for me. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hehehe This 3rd patch works pretty good. Well, better than number two, anyway. I had the same problem as you did, with the error and everything. Why I was running into the file-not-found-error was because I had turned the sound off by changing the name of sound.dll . Renaming it back to sound.dll and running the patch again did the trick. I had to change the name of the dll again, though. I still can't run the game with any sound, and I can no longer set the factors of planets (like water coverage etc-nor choose a landing site) without causing errors. I could before. However, besides that ...--with the sound off, with the low res graphics loaded, and all the animations turned off--I can now finally run the game for two hours before I hit the old terran.exe error. I can live with that (not the no sound or nothing, hehehe, with the no errors), it ain't great, but I can live with it. I start getting tired of staring at the screen after a couple of hours anyway <g> Hurrah for patch 3. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hey edromia! You didn't happen to install a certain faction editor, did you? Try copying the readme.txt file from the SMAC CD into your SMAC folder on the c: drive and then run the patch again. I had that same problem. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Edromia, i got some bad news for you. i had the same problems with the 3.0 patch i tried reinstalling Alpha Centauri and the 2.0 patch. I then scanned my drive with McAfee's VirusScan 95. Nothing came up. I knew something was wrong so i downloaded a newer version of VirusScan. Upon installing and running, I found every single .exe file on my computer was infected by the Win95.CIH virus. After 2 hrs of fiddling with my virus scan i clean my drive. so to be sure, download the evaluation version of McAfee's Virus Scan 4.0(something) from www.mcafee.com i hope you dont find anything but its just precaution SniperX |
