Author Topic:   Patch 2.0 - Directory Bug?????

I installed SMAC in a non-default directory (d:\games\SMAC). When I tried to install the patch in that same directory I get an error more or less like "Old File Not Found. Data in File Does Not Match." At first I thought I had a corrupted file so I downloaded it again an tried to install. I got the same error. May I got a virus? Scanned and also defragged my harddrives. Same error. I uninstalled and reinstalled SMAC at the default games directory and then used the patch. Great, it finally works but it's not on the harddrive and directory that I want it to be. I figure only the Terran.exe file was updated and I may be able to get SMAC w/patch 2.0 to work in a different directory by simply backing up the exe file, install SMAC in D:\games\SMAC and copy the updated Terran.exe there. Does anyone else have problems updating Terran.exe that is not in the default directory? Will Patch 3.0 have this bug as well?

I installed patch a while ago, so my info is spotty. I think if you copy the patch file into the directory of the game it will work.

Did you reinstall the game into the non-default directory again and then apply the patch? That seems like the one permutation you skipped.

Yep, I tried another full install on my D drive but I get the same error message.

What file is it hanging on? You should be able to see which one.

When I try to install the patch it stops before any files are updated; 0% done. As soon a I hit the "OK" button I get the following message:
"Old File not found. However, a file of
the same name was found. No update done
since file contents do not match."
Then the patch program ends!!
