Sorry, but I can't seem to get it to install. If I go auto it just flashes for a sec then goes back to the desktop. If I go setup it will go to a point of starting to transfer files when I get an "an error occurred during the move data process:-113" There are no problems with dx 6 drivers. Also I have installed quite few other programs from cd and had no problems after trying to install SMAC. If you have any ideas, I would most welcome them.
Thanks.

If there aren't fingerprints on the CD, it's probably dos based CD-Rom drivers. Right-click on the My Computer icon, select properties, then peformance. If it says "optimal", you're using win-32 drivers (good). If it says "compatability", you're using dos drivers. Contact your manufacturer to get Win95 cd drivers installed. If worse comes worse, just copy the contents of the \program folder on the CD to the HD.

Like I said, copy the contents of the \program folder to one on the HD.

Thanks for helping but I still have a problem. I tried to copy the files over and it comes up with two different files that are not there. ea techn and air loop. Still I went ahead and tried to play the game but all the info windows are fuzzy and not readable. The screens themselves look very good. I believe it would play if the the windows were clear. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean about the files not being there. Also, the screen is fuzzy? Try manually setting your desktop resolution to 800x600x256 colors (8 bit). Also, what did you find out under the performance tab?

Thanks for your help.
The cd rom drive was in ms dos mode as you figured but I was in shock to find out why. But that's a different story. So after installing win 98 everything is fine.
Thanks for taking the time to help.

I had this problem yesterday and I did indeed
find that my drives were operating in DOS
compatibility mode. The solution was subtle,
however, and NOT what the help messages
suggested (16-bit DOS-style device drivers).

In the NVRAM settings for my system I had my
CDROM drive set to AUTO (auto-detect) which
worked just fine, but I also had a box
checked which claimed that the CDROM supported 32-bit transfers (an untrue
assumption).

Thus the drive initialized properly during
the POST but then punked out and dropped into
compatibility mode when the device failed
to respond correctly to 32 bit transfer
requests.

Turning off the 32-bit option in NVRAM made
the CDROM show up in regular mode, and after
that the game installed without a hitch. It
actually makes sense if you stop and think
about it.
