I started customizing a scenario map. I was trying to recreate earth and used parameters: Huge map, polar caps, no colony pods, ocean. After designing Alaska through Mexico, I was wise enough to decide to save.

When I tried to reload the map, everything looked fine. Then I tried to start custimizing again. PROBLEM. The moment I clicked to put down new terrain, the entire map sank by 1000m. Everything sank to the ocean floor. Made me very mad.

I tried reloading on two computers to the same effect -- it always sank. Can Firaxis please fix this. It makes map editing useless.

Hi Sparky!

Just wondering, were you able to place mountains (i.e. terrains with very high elevations rather than just all flatlands) your map? If you did, how did you do it? I tried to create earth-like map, too; but I can't create any mountains!!! All I have is flatlands and oceans! Please help if you can! Thanks!

Cemperor, just make sure that under Edit Map you have add terrain (1) on. Hold ctrl (like Civ 2) and click on the ocean to create land. Click on the land to make it rise.
