After a highly disappointing day of AC play, I finally got things working correctly. Here's what was happening. . . Every time I started a new game, AC would drop to the desktop right around year 2180. About 1/5 tries I got past that point, and it did the same thing later. What it looks like is that's when the first movie was trying to cue up, and AC would crash without an error message. Nothing seems to help - not version 2.0, newer video drivers for my Diamond V550, not different resolutions, nor anything else like that I've tried. What did make a difference was playing without the CD in the drive. It's the only way it doesn't crash. Just to let you guys know . . . Mike Knapp |

Try directdraw=0 and 8BitMovieSound=1 in the alpha centauri.ini file. Check out DX 6.1 as well (www.microsoft.com/directx). jkm firaxis games |
