Having played a couple of times and finished a few Transcendance victories (takes quite a while to do that. :-) I decided to try out some multiplayer games. I was trying this at home on a two node IPX network. Both machines are running Win98. I was on the host machine. Both machines have been updated to the 2.0 patch.I was playing the Spartans, my son was the Hive. I don't recall all the settings, but it was a unlimited time, random planet - I believe all the defaults were used.
In any case, it was my son's turn and he was taking forever, so I got in a conversation with the University guy. While he was waiting for a response from me, the dialog popped up to tell me it was my turn. I clicked OK, the dialog went away, but the underlying conversation dialog was empty(blank, black window). This caused a real problem as the way out of the conversation was a menu entry on the screen that was now blank. I tried clicking all over it in case there was a black on black color problem, but with no avail. The game still responded to all the other buttons which were visible, but unfortunately they all came back to the blank screen. In the end I had to kill the game with a Ctrl-Alt-Del sequence - obvisously I couldn't save the game at that point.
Since I have done the above sequence since then, I assume there was some window that if the turn becomes availble during that window of time, it screws up the game.
