I was wondering if anyone can help me here, I have _tried_ to download the demo (incl movie ~ 50 M) twice and got to ~ 40 M and gave up because my ISP charges by the Megabyte when I use of 250 a month. I decided then that I could live without the movie, I just wanted to see if I should buy this game as it looks great. So I tried to download the sans-movie demo (~20 M) and have failed around the 15, 17, 18, and 20 (just under) Megabyte marks. Now, I don't know if this is a problem at my end or at the ftp sites end (ftp.owo.com) but the main problem that I see is that ftp.owo.com doesn't support resuming. If it did support resuming I would have to start over again everytime the download failed (which has been everytime). The only solutions I can see are keep trying (and I have already passed the 250 M mark on my ISP - meaning 25c per extra M), or find a mirror that has the site that does support resuming, unlike ftp.owo.com. I think that this is a especial issue in this case as a file ~ 50 M can take 4 hours on a good day and ~ 20 M about 1.5. Many people (as I have previously) belong to ISPs that put time limits on connections making downloading these files very improbable without resuming. What are these people to do if they want to see if SMAC is worth buying. Me, I'm just going broke trying to get the demo. Thankyou anybody who has the patience to help me after all that complaining. Yours David

I don't know what to tell you. The internet is a flaky place. I'd either use and FTP program like Bulletproof FTP and a site that supports resumed downloads (like www.avault.com) or wait for it to hit magazines, which should be within the month.jkm firaxis games |

Sounds great, but www.avault.com just points me in the direction of ftp.owo.com, which as I have previously mentioned, _doesn't_ support recurring.Never mind though, as I have obtained the sans-movie version on a magazine, but I really would like to see the movie and was wondering if it can be obtained seperately on a _resuming_ site as it still would be oh ~ 30 M. I'll keep looking, Yours David PS. I have played the game now and I love it, as soon as I get enough money I'll buy it and see the movie anyway. Unfortunately that small goal could take a little while to reach. |
