The area at the bottom of the screen where my interface windows should be is solid black. There are no windows, buttons, or anything else for that matter. I know the area is there because the black area stays there even when I scroll around. It's not an active area either, since clicking in that area just tends to scroll the map. Anybody know what gives? Thanks!

Try directdraw=0 in the alpha centauri.ini file. Also, try the other resolution than the one you're using (800x600 or 1024x768). If you can't get around it, email me with your system specs (most importantly your video card) and summarize the problem.
