Could be a few things. First off, ensure the CD itself doesn't have any fingerprints on it. Next, ensure you're using 32-bit CD-Rom drivers. Check this by right clicking on the My Computer icon, select properties, then performance. It should say you're optimially configured. If so, find the uninst.exe file in the c:\windows folder, right click on it, select properties, and uncheck read-only. Try reinstalling. If none of that works, just copy the contents of the Program folder on the CD into a folder on your HD. Run terran.exe to launch the game.

I tried copy the files directly to the hard drive but there's a problem. There's a file name "EA TECHN". The space in the name won't let windows explorer copy past that name. I tried it using good old DOS. That almost works. The game starts but the video is messed up. There's a pop-up saying I need to re-install. Also the Program/Scenario directry is empty. Do I have a bad CDROM?

Got it working. I have a ASUS P5A motherboard running Win98. I had to get the latest PCI driver for the motherboard at www.acerlabs.com. It's the southbridge driver. The game then installed and ran fine. Also the scenario directory now shows files.
The problem was I still had a MSCDEX line in my Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files. That's a DOS based driver and runs in 16 bit mode. The driver install routine says you have to take that line out.
Wierd how everything else worked with it like Half-Life and Janes WWII Fighters. Good luck.

Sorry to say this didn't help me. I am running with the most recent driver for my CD drive in 32 bit mode and it still won't read the CD.

I'd love to copy the files manually as you suggest but do you mind telling me how I'm going to do that when I can't read the CD?
All I get is the CD Drive: is not accessible, the device is not ready error message whenever I put the Alpha Centauri CD in the drive yet I can insert any other CD from my libary of computer games in the drive and they autoload, and run fine.

I'm going to swap the game for another copy and hope that one works. This sounds more like a bad media problem then a configuration problem to me.

Thoughts? Suggestions? HELP!!!

Same exact problem here, no matter what I do my computer cannot find the S3LZ.pcx or Dogpile files, and this gives off the mover error :-115, I was able to copy all files but this and run the game using the terran.exe (game is real slow loading up and somewhat slow during play), it's not "finger prints" (my second copy from software store)& have all the 32 bit drivers, Fun game but the install headache made me lose many hours I would rather have spent gaming. If you have the files send them to me and maybe I can reassemble it correclty on my end.

Hmmm I'm getting the error -113 not -115 but I'm not sure maybe my drivers are all messed up oh well great game but like the last guy said I'd rather spend the installing hours playing SMAC, oh well I'm going to have to return it.

Last 3 Posters: Sounds like a bum CD. Exchange it or email me and I'll send you the missing files or new CD's.

Bounty: What happened when you manually copied it over? What about the 32-bit CD-Rom drivers?
