Ok, some other fellow posted this, and got ripped on for having a pirate copy, but he's got a legit question. FYI, I've got a copy of AC on hold at a store I'm picking up this afternoon...

How would one deal with a firewall/IP masquerading with AC? What port(s) does it use? Myself, I've got ADSL, piped into my Mac, and am using a routing program to put my PC on the net. I want to know what port AC uses so I can set up proper port mapping so I can host games without issues.

Like I said before, I'm getting a copy this afternoon - the manual may well answer this - but other folks may be curious also. Answers, and not flames, are welcome

It uses the standard tcp/ip ports that all directplay uses. Which those are, I'll look into. But beside just trying it, if you've not had problems with most other win95 multiplayer games, you're probably fine.

See:

The directions are specifically for Linux IP Masquerading, but this will tell you which ports you need to forward. I've accomplished this successfully for DirectPlay with a Linux firewall system.

Fresh from the Microsoft support website...

=============================================

To play DirectX games across a firewall, verify that all computers in the game are running DirectX 6.0, and ask your firewall administrator to configure the firewall to use the following settings:
Allow an initial outbound TCP connection on port 47624
Allow subsequent connections of inbound and outbound TCP and UDP ports 2300-2400.
Set appropriate permissions for DirectPlay (Client).

For more advanced information on this topic, including examples of MS Proxy Server 2.0 settings, firewall adminstrators should refer to the DirectX 6.0 SDK Help file under the topic "Firewall Support in DirectPlay 6.0".
