I installed the game without a problem but when I tried to run it after the Firaxis logo all
I got was a black screen. I waited a couple of minutes and nothing happened so I Ctrl+Alt+Delete out and now my screen has shrunk. There is now a black border around the screen and less usable space. Nothing fits into the screen anymore. Help!!!

Well, if it resized your desktop, just right-click on the wallpaper, select properties, then settings and return it to it's normal size. Perhaps terran.exe is still running in your tasks-manager.
As far as you not getting past the intro movie (which is what's after the firaxis logo), try installing the latest version of DX 6.1 (available at www.microsoft.com/directx). If you've got a TNT card (or another bleeding edge 3D accelerator), set your HW acceleration to 0 by right-click on My Computer, select properties, then performance, then graphics. Set the slider to 0.

Dear Jeff,
Was able to get screen size back to normal, thank you. Also the game ran fine when I tried it again. Only thing is for sum srtange reson (and I don't know if it has to do with anything that happened) is that the
box in the start bar that shows which program is running is now yellow insted of grey as is the scroll bar. Thanks for your time.
