Hi ReedC,I'm having the strong feeling this doesn't relate to DirectX. I've tried running it with DX 6.0 & DX 6.1 (laptop & desktop, Win98), which runs just fine. This applies to SMAC UK version, US 1.0 and US 2.0.
Even under NT with DX 4.0 (!) it runs smooth.
3rd party drivers are often a problem, and sadly we're all depending on them. However, default settings of Windows also cause a lot of havoc. Some tips:
- Disable any background program (disk agent, any AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS programs/drivers you may load, virus checkers, 'real-time' defraggers).
- Re-install any servicepack available for your OS.
- Check your swapfile (managed by Windows or at least 2 times RAM size).
- Make sure there are at least 10 MB free on your HD for tempfiles.
- Run DXDIAG (from the SMAC CD) to check your DX installation.
Good luck!
