Author Topic:   People looking for a UK/European patch come HERE!

If you want to have all the advancements of the patch but you own a UK or other european version of the game there is a way of doing it, simply download the US version of terran.exe then use the patch on it. I have done this and it works perfectly (as far as i know) and the hotseat/E-Mail multiplayers work too. If you want, you can backup your old terran.exe so that when the UK patch does come out you can replace the US one without having to reinstall.
PS. this isnt my idea (i read it on a former post) but i thought i should bring it to peoples attention. Also i hope this doesn't go against any rules (it shouldnt do as we have bought the game)

A ray of light after all those weeks.
The patch doesn't work, but the US terran.exe and my german version go together well. I don't need the CD anymore.
Is that called copy protection?

Sorry, this statement was a little too quick. The game breaks down after 5 or 6 moves. You can call me Dr. Watson or Error Exceptional.

you are a life-saver!
I've bought the game, but play the demo at work - for practice! I really notice the differences between them! Plus - several of my friends and my-self are waiting to start a E-MAIL game! Therefore I've been checking for the UK patch for weeks now!
I'd read about the fact that the US version of Terrian.exe could be used across the pond, allowing the patch, but I has been unable to get a copy of the executable. Until now!
Add, with regards your comments about if you'd done the right thing - forget it mate, if Firaxis had done the RIGHT thing to begin with - like releasing the European patch along with the US ( labeling it a beta would have covered their backs! ), then we wouldn't be here, having this discussion, and taking these measures!

Hey,
Im glad to hear it helped some people (sorry about it not working with the German version properly). I know what it is like waiting for this UK patch, and i just dont see why you need to release different versions that use the same language.

It is probably legally wrong (morally is debatable) but given that you still need top buy all the other files it will be interesting to see if this stays in the forum.
In the meantime I obviously haven't downloaded it, and will therefore not be able to see if it solves all/some of the problems I'm getting. But I hope it would if I did.

Well the only thing that is the problem, must be EA. They have monopoly over the gaming industry, and drag anround with us customers as they please

Who cares if it's legally or morally responsible ? I spent my �34.99 honestly on a copy of the game, and I deserve to get my money's worth...not just some "UK version of the patch will be coming soon" message day-after-day-after-day on the Downloads page...
...anyone remember that "it only takes a week to convert the patch" comment ? Has it been over a week since the US patch ? I think so...
Thanks 'Add'. You're a star. My next question would be...why do we (the consumers) have to figure this stuff out for ourselves ? Why hasn't someone at FIRAXIS put a message on the Downloads page..."UK patch coming soon, but in the meantime...". Is it because of the copy protection thing ?
If so, how ironic that a measure that is meant to protect EA, and hence the end-user by keeping piracy down, and prices down, should end up stopping legitimate users playing what they paid good money for !!!
Any comment, anyone at FIRAXIS ? I'm not trying to flame you guys. But where is the UK patch ?!?

It's disappeared into europe somewhere. We're done with it, OSI is done with it, EA US is done with it. I bug our producer once a day: "Where is FR/UK/GR?". "I'll keep you posted". I imagine it'll be soon, but it's impossible to say. I agree it's ridiculous, but rest assure that v3.0 will not be so screwed up.

Wouldn't it be easier for FIRAXIS if they simply added a FIRAXIS POSTS ONLY forum with these little tidbits?.. that way we could simply look there as opposed to Jeff having to post "It's coming out this weekend" on every other thread?..
Just a thought.. then they might be more willing to post More helpful info... like "it's all finished, we are just waiting on a couple test's that shouldn't take more than two day's..".. or something like that..
