Author Topic:   Error message when installing SMAC V2.0

When I try and install the SMAC V2.0 Patch, at 78% it brings up an error message saying, "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." It then quits and I dont get the extra hotseat multiplayer or the E-Mail multiplayer. Im not sure if any of the new features are actually installed properly. Any help much appriciated.

Make sure you're using the Full US version of smac. The terran.exe should weigh in at around 2.5 megs. Also, that you haven't modified any files. Reinstalling from the CD might be in order.

I have a PII 266 64 meg ram, 2 Gigs of empty hard drive space and I get the same problem. I have re-downloaded the Patch and Re-intalled the Game Full Instalation and Standard and yet I seem to get the same error when trying to use the Patch. Please help somehow.

And you have the US version? If so, sounds like you might have a virus that is modifying the exe. Download an evaluation copy of a virus checker and see what's what.

I am having a smiliar problem with SMAC V2.0. When I try to install the patch I get an error message stating that it could not find an old version. I didn't even see any % completion. And yes I did install in the game director and I scanned for viruses and found none with a recent Norton Anti-Virus.
