The last two Librarian Ironman games have caused SMAC to hang. In my current game, I've partly isolated the cause to the AI Peacekeepers. I can send a savefile immediately before the turn on which the crash occurs. By using the Scenario Editor, I was able to eliminate factions one by one until I identified the PKs' turn as the consistent source of the problem. When I take control of the PKs myself, the problem disappears, even when most PK units are automated. But every turn that the PKs are under full AI control, the game hangs again, when they take their turn. |

Can you play past with an autosave? There is definately a problem that could cause the game to hang, but it is fixed in v3.0 (entering test today). jkm firaxis games |

Yes, if I recall correctly, I loaded an autosave to restore the game to the previous turn. Perhaps you mean a much earlier autosave, in the hope that the problem doesn't appear if preceding gameplay is slightly different. It is interesting that the hangs have only occurred when I stepped up to Librarian. I used the Scenario Editor to turn off Ironman, in case that was a factor, but either that's not it, or the problem was entrenched. I notice that you haven't asked for the save file, which means one or more of: (a) you're very confident of the fix in 3.0; |

A few repeatable lockups are fixed in v3.0, but almost every crash has been system related. Send in the save and I'll try to get you past that point. jkm firaxis games |

Jeff, I was hoping you'd remind me of the email address for sending saved files. |

I must emphasise that I have been able to get past the stage of the error by taking personal control of the PKs immediately before I hit the EOT for UoP, so I'm playing well past that point now. Unfortunately, the symptoms persist when I return control of the PKs to the AI. So I have to play two factions. ** Another problem that occurred later in the same game concerns the `Draw Buffer'. A sudden message claims that there's not enough memory for the Draw Buffer, and the game is terminated. However, as I have 80 MB RAM, and there's not much to see (island continents) or happening (units are few and far between), it doesn't ring true. I've saved before shortly before this happens, too, so I'll send you three saved games to help your diagnosis of these ailments. |
