I'd just like to say that Firaxis did a heck of a good job with this game. This is by far my favorite game.Every game has some small bugs, it would be impossible to make a perfect game in that area the first time around. There are literally thousands of combinations of hardware/software combinations, so I would hope no one expects that every single on of these was tested. The tech support here is unsurpassed in my opinion, the responses are quick and detailed, and most of all, helpfull. I would hope all companies model their tech support after Jeff's system. The BB system is most helpfull aswell. All in all, Good job Firaxis. I wont hesitate to buy anymore of your games. Actually, Im thinking about going out to buy Gettysburg this week . Dave

Dear Dave,Dr Fabio thinks you are an American. Might he be right, jaa? He suspects that you, in fact, have been able to patch your game, nicht war? Well Dave, Dr Fabio knows for sure there are many starving people here on this side of the Atlantic, who have no patch to apply because of the big Ogre EA, who has decided to make our version copy protected. The valiant knight Firaxis has so far been unable to provide Dr Fabio et al with a patch. Dr Fabio must make the diagnose -Firaxis is suffering from Uncompassionate Heart Towards European Gamers (UHTEG), a serious affection indeed. When Dr Fabio once bought a car with no steering wheel and the salesman promised him one soon, he was equally angry when, after three weeks, he still could not turn his precious car. Dr Fabian,In my opinion your diagnostic is right: Mr Milford suffers from being American This doesn't seem to be too contagious on the rest of the globe though , so not to worry. However, I find the game is playable without the patch. Then again, I admit having severe pains in my screen updates and victory conditions. Also, my base names are aching now and then. Sometimes, my entire core application tends to crash and frequently black stains appear on my units. Yes, a patch would be in order. Or something else to ease the pain. Glad I live in the right country (pass the joint, bro!) smokin' mic |

Dear doctors, your diagnoses seems valid, and though I would dispute your conclusion to whether americana is contagious or not, I do know of a temporary alleviation of the problem encountered with non-existant medication designed for the european strains of SMAC. Personally I have caught the UK strain, more resistant than the US strain, but fortunately is not as resistant as the other european strains. To alleviate your symptoms from the UK version, simply replace the "terran.exe" main programme with the american version. That enables you to patch SMAC into version 2.0 using the US patch. Lab tests on other european strains has not been done, so it just might not work with french or german versions, but give it a try. It worked for me. -- MOCKBa |

Dave Milford, If you are interested in 19th century warfare in general and the American Civil war in particular, then I give my wholehearted recommendation for Sid Meier's Gettysburg! As a Real Time Tactical game I find it thrilling. Maneuvering to turn the enemy's flank and watching them retreat and rout is a great pleasure while observing your own line collapse in front of your eyes while waiting for reinforcements is not only sad but vexing.
